IN-SCHOOL MENTORSHIP

Since it's inception in 2012, Operation Reach Back has been fortunate to trust to serve as in-school mentors in the Washington Metropolitan Area.  From 2012 to present, ORB has served over 300 youth across 4 elementary and middle schools via in-school, group mentorship.  The mentors sacrificed their time on Fridays to consistently provide mentoring services to the participants in the program.  Though many of them had full time employment elsewhere, they prioritized these opportunities to pour into the lives of the next generation of leaders.

From 2012 to 2018, our mentoring focus was primarily geared toward young men.  However, as a result of persistent inquiry from the administration at the schools being served, we began to seek opportunities to expand our services to young women.  We were blessed to find an outstanding woman to lead the charge for what would become our girls mentoring component and launched the pilot for that program during the 2018-2019 school year.  It was a roaring success and we have been serving both young men and young women ever since.

Our mentoring focus has been to character and behavioral development, real world preparedness, and the community involvement.  The topics discussed have been and always will be founded upon our core principles (Relationship, Responsibility, Respect, Reach, and Return).  We believe to these to not only be mentoring core principles but standards that can be applied everyday life.  For more information about in-school mentoring initiatives, click here.
